Enrichment Workshop for Zoo Keeper Teams

A motivating workshop lasting 2.5–3 hours that combines modern welfare principles with the hands-on creation of a wicker ball – a simple, natural and highly versatile enrichment item. A great way to bring new energy to your team, share inspiration and create something together that will delight the animals too.

Workshop program

Theoretical part (approx. 30 minutes)
A short, inspiring presentation based on the "Keeper's Guide: From Surviving to Thriving" – a guide created specifically for this workshop.
– a modern view of welfare and simple wellbeing indicators
– the five domains of enrichment and the clear S.P.I.D.E.R. framework
– safe and meaningful enrichment in everyday practice

Each participant receives a printed guide to return to the topics at any time.

 

Practical part (1.5–2 hours)
– building a wicker ball together, step by step
– customization options for different species
– ways to use it: food-based, sensory, manipulative

This part has a natural team-building character – participants collaborate, have fun, and create enrichment they can use right away.

Other materials
Depending on interest, I can also tailor the workshop to other materials, such as weaving with fire hoses or making enrichment from bamboo and other natural materials – these variants require more time, though, so the workshop can run considerably longer than the standard 2.5–3 hours.
